(Running time: 7 minutes)

HAWAII STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH CHILD WELLNESS PROGRAM/MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH BRANCH teamed up with HSTV (HAWAII STUDENT TELEVISION) to have students create a 5 minute video and 30 second PSA on SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME (SIDS) for Safe Sleep Hawaii. The 5 minute video stars 16 year old student actor SEAN JONES, 18 year old MALIA VERDADERO and veteran actress LEYSILLIE WILLAMS, who all acted out SIDS prevention tips in short film narrative.  Special appearances and advice on SIDS prevention was given by DOCTOR LOUISE IWAISHI, with the support of Kapi'olani Medical Center, along with DANA FONG, who shared his unfortunate loss of a grandchild due to SIDS.  HSTV also inspired its youngest rising star, 2 month old infant actor RILEY KAAI,  who displays a timely and adorable speaking role of baby talk.

GIESE FAMILY/STUDENT PRODUCTION TEAM

The family/student production team of SHAYNE (16),  NICHOLAS (13), and BRANDI (11), who attend Kapolei High School, mentored by their parents BEN and NAOMI GIESE, were selected and received inspiration, education and financial support by HSTV for their participation.

"SIDS is about family, and this SIDS awareness video is about potentially saving a newborn family member's life.  Having the involvement of the Giese family production team was not only an honor but also synergic with the project.   Not only are they very talented and did an outstanding job, but Ben and Naomi are a great example of parents supporting their children's ambitions, may it be video production or other endeavors," commented Robert Olague, HSTV President/Executive Producer.

STATEWIDE DISTRIBUTION AND BROADCAST DEBUT "THE INCREDIBLES"

The video and PSA is valuable to all ages, but mainly targets youth of 16 to 24 years of age and is being offered and distributed statewide to hospitals and family/youth organizations in hopes of creating SIDS prevention awareness. Through HSTV's broadcast placement services, the 30 second PSA made its statewide debut during the 2007 holiday season on OCEANIC TIME WARNER CABLE on 12/16/2007during the broadcast of the ABC FAMILY CHANNEL's  blockbuster movie, THE INCREDIBLES,  and on the broadcast of the blockbuster movie, HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS on 12/23/2007.  The PSA was televised on Christmas day 2007 on the TURNER BROADCAST STATION during the TBS CHRISTMAS DAY STORY MARATHON.  HSTV also provided 2008 broadcast placements on ANIMAL PLANET, MTV, ABC FAMILY, NICKELODEON, SOAP NETWORK, STYLE NETWORK , VH1, CARTOON NETWORK, among other networks.

Hawaii's students and mentors have gained national and international recognition by this video winning the 2008 38TH ANNUAL CREATIVITY AWARDS and the 2008 NATIONAL STUDENT TELEVISION AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE.
